Richard Prince (1949) is an American painter and photographer. He is known for producing work in the genre of re-photography where he appropriates images from other artists to create his own work.
The image on this poster, "Untitled (Cowboy)", is a photograph by Prince of a photograph by Sam Abell. It was appropriated from a cigarette advertisement. This image was the first re-photograph to be sold for more than $1 million at auction.
Prince is regarded as one of the most revered artists of his generation. Untitled (Cowboy) has been identified as one of the "Top 100 most influential images of all time" by Time Magazine.
